The Guangzhou Acrobatic Troupe from China will be performing at Stadium Indera Mulia in Ipoh on May 24 in aid of Chinese Independent schools in the state.
State executive councillor Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said the troupe, led by acclaimed director Chen Wei Yan, who choreographed performances for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, would be performing four chapters from “Journey To The West”.
“The audience will be taken on Tang Sanzang and his three disciples’ journey from China to India in their quest to attain enlightenment in a 90-minute show filled with acrobatic stunts and dances.
“The troupe’s 70 members will perform various body contortion, flying trapeze and trampoline acts,” he told reporters during a press conference in Ipoh on Monday.
Dr Mah said the show, which although was based on Chinese literature, would be educational and entertaining to those from other cultures.
“The show in Ipoh will be the second leg of the troupe’s tour in Malaysia.
“We are expecting a crowd of about 3,000.
“All proceeds from the show will go towards the building funds of Chinese independent schools in Perak,” he said, adding that the state government was the main sponsor of the event.
MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek was expected to open the 7pm show on that day.
