IPOH: The show was held in conjunction with Visit Perak Year 2012.
With the theme Go Green With Perak 2012, the campaign was aimed to educate the public, especially the younger generation, on the importance of preserving the environment, and having a health conscious society.
The event held at the Ipoh Parade Shopping Complex was declared open by the State Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Hamidah Osman.
It was held in collaboration with Lions Club Ipoh Mandarin, and the Lions Club of Ipoh Evergreen.
Ten specially-designed outfits incorporating recyclable materials were showcased. The fashion show comprised four collections — Paper, Metallic, Plastics and Cloth.
Items such as newspapers, old computer mouse pads, kitchen aluminium foil, zips, straws of various colours, and bamboo materials were used to create the stunning range.
Besides the fashion show, there was also an Earth Day Inter-School Competition.
The competition gave students from various schools an opportunity to come out with a model of Perak’s favourite tourist spot using recycled materials.
SM Shen Jai emerged as the winner followed by SMJK Ave Maria Convent and SMK Methodist Perempuan Ipoh.
