P.O.R.T will serve as platform to people of artistic and creative talents across all genres
When the People Of Random Talents(PORT) centre threw its doors open a couple of months back, it created waves of excitement for people of creative and artistic talents in Perak who have long hoped for better recognition and opportunities.
PORT being the only such centre in country aims to provide the platform for people with artistic and creative skills across all genres.
This welcomed effort from the Perak state government is yet another example of the earnest desire of its Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir who wants to see the rakyat in this state enjoy better opportunities, income and standard of living.
State think tank Institut Darul Ridzuan (IDR) which is headed by its CEO Aminudin Hashim mooted and created the centre for the benefit of artists and their likes to congregate at one place where they can share ideas as well as look for better opportunities.
The centre would also answer to those in Perak who have long wished for a place where they could exhibit their creations.
Aminudin through his research and discussions with various government departments, NGOs and the public is well aware of the many shortcomings in Perak which need to be addressed.
“Perak can be described as a state which produces a higher percentage of people with creative and artistic skills, yet, prior to the setting up of PORT, these people had very limited opportunities in Perak and many had left the state to seek greener pastures in KL or Penang,” he said.
“However, now they have PORT which will serve as a platform for them to find better opportunities and to excel in the field which they are best in,” Aminudin explained to reporters after launching a photo exhibition at PORT yesterday evening.
The photo exhibition was specially organised for undergrads in Perak majoring in photography.
Guest of honour to the event was State Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Exco Datuk Zainol Padzi Paharudin who is also chairman to PORT.
Meanwhile, Aminudin clarified with the press that PORT will serve not just artists but people under the artistic and creative category such as performing artistes, designers, photographers, and even writers.
He also asked for cooperation from the media to help highlight and provide better coverage on PORT so that awareness about it reaches to all target groups who should benefit from it.
